“It hadn’t even occurred to me that Coffee News® was gone—I discovered that it was out of print in Dallas while exploring local advertising avenues for myself,” said DCNG’s Adam Jochelson. “When I talked to Chris [Guerre] and Ashley [McKnight] about teaming up to bring it back, they were on board immediately!” Mr. Jochelson went on to talk about how much positive response they’ve been getting from restaurants who are happy to see it again. “Even random customers tell me how much they love Coffee News® when they see me walk in with some sample papers in my hand.” Starting this March, Dallas restaurant patrons will be able to enjoy Coffee News® again. For many, it’ll be like reconnecting with an old friend.
Does it seem like something’s been missing from your neighborhood breakfast spot? That nagging feeling of loss might be due to the relatively recent disappearance of the Coffee News®. For those lamenting its departure, the Coffee News® comeback will be a welcome breath of fresh air, providing good news “to be enjoyed over coffee.” To wit, Dallas Coffee News Group (DCNG) will deliver freshly brewed editions of the world’s largest restaurant periodical starting in March.
Entrepreneur Magazine calls Coffee News® the leading advertising service publication on Earth, with publishers in 30 countries and over a thousand different editions in the United States. DCNG recently entered a franchise agreement to distribute the one-page, coffee-colored 11” x 17” papers across an area stretching from Downtown out to the edge of East Dallas. Local restaurants are already lining up to help them serve up interesting stories, trivia, quotes and local events to Lower Greenville, Lakewood, White Rock, Knox-Henderson, Deep Ellum and Uptown.
The Coffee News® traces its roots back to founder Jean Daum in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1988. One day, as Ms. Daum waited for her lunch order to arrive, extreme boredom compelled her to read back of a sugar packet. Suddenly it dawned on her—restaurants were missing the boat by not providing something interesting to read for a few minutes while waiting for their food. That’s when she came up with the idea for Coffee News®. From those humble beginnings the paper has been growing for almost 30 years and now reaches over a million readers around the globe every week.
